Restoring fire apparatus can be VERY pricey. For one thing, most of them are essentially "one-off," being built to the specs of the purchasing fire dept; for another, re-doing the pumping system, with all the associated brass piping, valves, et al, is expensive all by itself.
Which is why you have these clubs like the Crown Firecoach Collectors, dedicated to people who collect Crown fire apparatus. One of their projects, as I recall, was reproducing windshields which were only used on Crowns.
