I need to whisper so that Mr. Log Splitter, who has been extremely reliable over the last 20 years, won't think I'm trying to replace him, and stop working just to spite me. (Those of you out there who are like me and don't "do" mechanical stuff too well will understand the superstition.)

I need to figure out what the tonnage rating is of my home-built log splitter. It was assembled by a brilliant welder and handyman at least 30 years ago. I am the 3rd owner. Is there a formula that takes the HP of the engine, the GPM of the pump, and the bore&stroke of the ram and gives the answer?

I see lots of commercially-built ones that seem to have a wide range of tonnages, so I would just like to figure out where mine stands in the range of available ratings.

Thank you for your help, and Power On!
