They are not a differential per se. What they do is lock both and want to push you straight ahead, negating you ability to steer on loose stuff. Ot they unlock one or the other, back and forth, making the rear lurch around. Like the way a full time front axle with U-joints 'crow hops' in a parking lot.

I've never owned one, only test drove/delivered. I didn't like that way they work.
