My friend (since deceased) was the son of a Ford Dealer in the Baltimore area. He worked in the shop when he was a kid. Ford made limited production runs of 1.5 ton trucks for essential use in WWII. They were all painted blue, were built in 1943, and were equipped with a wooden front bumper painted silver. Ford gave a slip of credit to each buyer which entitled them to receive, at the conclusion of WWII, a proper chrome bumper for the truck. About 10 years ago, I went to see a truck listed as a 1943. It was on a farm, and the original owner's son was selling it from the estate. Sure enough, it was one of the trucks sold by my friend's father, and I got to actually see the wooden bumper, traces of silver still present, which had been used to repair part of the barn after WWII. I have not seen another of these trucks since.
