what i wound up doing was positioning the tank so that the filler neck had 3/8'' above the frame rail. it needs to be that high so it not only gives clearance from the frame rail but also clearance from the rear spring shackle mount that is very close to the filler neck. i then noticed that now the top straps are 1/2'' in the back and 1'' in the front about their mounting points{crossmembers} obviously the bottom straps won't be a problem hugging the tank but the only "solution" right now is what Chris Case mentioned by using "shims" i was considering using heavy wall pipe and cutting it to 1'' and 1/2'' and slipping it over the bolt between the crossmember and top strap.
Once its all snugged up i suppose it will be good.
Im not a huge fan of "shimming" when the repro should be identical to the poem tank.
i think the flaw is in the filler neck like one of you mentioned this new tank is real nice but the filler neck just isn't the same.
If anyone comes up with any more suggestions let me know thanks justin
