Carter BBD Adjustment Questions

I have a 318 in my 6x6 with a Carter BBD carb. I bought the carb rebuilt from Rock Auto, and appears to be a good unit.

It seems to be running a little rich judging by the soot that comes out of the tailpipes, and I'm wondering if I can adjust it myself or do I have to pull it and have it adjusted or rejetted by a pro?

When the engine is cold it starts with very little choke, and doesn't need any once it fires. At idle the left bore is dumping more gas into the engine than the right. It doesn't stumble on acceleration, but has a moderate miss in the left bank at about 2000rpm.

Thanks for any input you may have.
