And if it's cutting back in like you say, then it must be cutting out properly too.
It shuts off the field winding at speeds so low that energizing the field would be a net loss, not enough speed to make juice. That would have been a possible culprit.
Otherwise, gauges hot all the time,not hooked through ign switch? Wipers park circuit? Tach? Eklectric fuel pump? Radio?
