Hey now there both about the same in width. I had some slop on this engine and I could see it move and swapped out both the chain and gears. That made it go away. I always put steel gears back in the Chevys. That was one of there problems along with the old style motor mounts that came apart and floor the engine and also pushed out the clutch pedal if you had a stick!! Then they started using cables to the carb.
