On older 318 engines A lot of times the valve seals go bad allowing oil into the cylinders.And then the crossover in the intake manifold that warms up the choke plugs up with carbon. not allowing the manifold to warm up the choke to open on warm up causing a rich mixture. On starting the engine cold and after running a couple minutes the intake manifold should be hot to the touch at the choke area if its not plugged up
