Yes, I pulse the brakes. Learned that back when I first learned to drive. Was pretty concerned about the brakes because they ran dry sitting in my yard, and leaked out pretty fast from one wheel cylinder once I refilled them. Replaced that one wheel cylinder, and was concerned the rest would be just as bad since the bad one was really rusty inside. Didn't have time to do the others, though, and at this point it looks like they're holding. The winter rains have set in, soon to be snow, so that job will probably have to wait until next year.

On the steering gear, there was really no oil in the box when I got it, and it took a fair bit of adjustment to get it tightened up. Fortunately there was still enough gear left to make it work, but I don't want to wear it out for lack of oil. Nothing takes the fun out of a long highway drive more than loose steering. It leaks out around the side shaft. Are you saying there is really no seal in there?
