My D300 has 8.00-17.5s on it, with a Dana 70 rear axle. All is good, but I'm curious whether this is standard. My tire guy says 17.5s are only used on trailers these days and isn't sure if truck tires are even available in that size any more. I would have expected maybe 7.50-16s. The bigger wheels/tires look right on it -- basically the same height as 9.00-16s. Just seems like an oddball size to me. Tire guy says the ".5" sizes all have a tapered rim that's supposed to carry heavy loads better than even sizes. Not sure why that would be either. Thoughts?
