I have been assuming that you are running an electric puller fan, but I may be incorrect. Also, if you have a 251/265 engine, you may need to find a 251 radiator to make everything fit, since these engines are 2" longer than the 230. You will also need the grill extenders to allow more room for the new radiator. My basic assumption here is that you should toss the electric fan and go back to a mechanical fan. The original fans on the 251s were 18".
It sounds to me that the prior owner installed a 251/265 in you truck and didn't have enough room to fit everything in with the original (230) radiator, so he flipped the radiator and installed an electric fan.
