I had TKR after a lifetime of injuries, surgeries, shots. The cortisone shots worked for me for 10 additional years after they wouldn't do any more orotho surgeries.
I wouldn't worry about the steel knees wearing out. The new wear surface products are good for a long time. They have already been back in my knee to take off a bone spur adn at that time he put in a new wear surface and adjusted the spacing.
