Since the engine sat for a while you may have one or more stuck oil control rings. I've heard from several people that Marvel Mystery Oil and Seafoam do a good job freeing up stuck rings. Also dry running heavier oil in it. Rotella diesel oil would be a good choice. A friend of mine had an old Scout that smoked like crazy. He ran it with straight 50w for years before he finally rebuild the engine.

Which leads to another question - how much do you think you will drive this truck? If it's a daily drive, then rebuild the engine now. But if you're only going to drive it a few times a month, I'd put it back together and have fun with it. Engine oil is cheap.
