With your truck unloaded, measure the distance from the tangent at the top of the rear axle housing to bottom surface of the bumpstop on the underside of the frame. Add a couple inches to this number. The sum is the distance you will want the underside of the flatbed to locate above the crown of the tire. If you ever plan to run tire chains while fully loaded - add another 2 to 4 inches.

Most flatbeds you see are too low and will contact the tires before the axle contacts the bump stops when fully loaded.
