I run them in sequence.

The factory heater in my '84/'92 Dodge always brings in fresh air. The Cummins takes a long time to warm up and never puts out enough heat to satisfactorily heat the cab when it is really cold outside. I put an auxiliary heater under the back seat, and I can cook you out at 15 below.

There is plenty of heat in the coolant line even after going through the first heater core when the auxiliary only has to heat recirculated cab air instead of incoming cold air.
