Sherman I understand what you are asking, been there done that. It can be very frustrating as I have pulled several apart and have found that they can be set up to work either way cw or ccw depending on the application. For me I found the easiest way was to make sure it is put together the proper way such as the spring is wound in the proper direction. As the spring heats up it tightens so what ever position that goes when hot, cw or ccw would be your hot run position. On my 53 B3f I used a lighter to gentle heat the spring and watched it work.
