Good info, but I still don't know what's right for the tranny on the '63. I'm thinking my 85/140 is probably GL5 since it has that mil-l-2105 nomenclature on it. It doesn't much matter because I mostly use it for chain saw bar oil. I put it in my chevy 1/2 ton and it's like molasses when it's cold. But the question is whether GL4 with its hypoid additives is "too much" for the old tranny and/or axle. I'd like to just find the lube order from owner's manual and see what it recommends.
