12 point wouldn't be so bad if they were made to tight specs and were reasonably deep, but I've noticed over the years the mass-market wrench sets have gotten looser and looser fits as well as getting thinner. I know I shouldn't expect much from cheap junk, but some of these wrenches just look like a slightly knurled round hole. Even on the decent ones, they chamfer the edges more than they used to (I have old wrenches to compare). That makes them easier to slip onto the nut or bolt, but it also gives less meat in actual contact. I would rather have to file the burrs off a damage nut or bolt in order to get a good-fitting wrench onto it, than have a wrench that slips on easily and then just spins around. I think on the cheap wrenches, they just tumble the heck out of them in a barrel tumbler and then put a nice shiny plating on them -- they're "highly polished" but they're also highly rounded off. Even my 1980-vitage Sears box wrench set has half again as much meat on it as the new Harbor Freight stuff.
