Do not drop the tank....that's the hard way of doing it. I have a Cherokee and a Grand Cherokee and I have put fuel pumps in both without dropping the tank. Just cut a hole in the back floor board over the tank! Don't laugh....believe me, this is the easy way!Someone has dimensions posted online of exactly were you need to cut the hole or I can measure mine and tell you the center of where you need to cut the hole. Just take a shrp chisel and punch thru the back floor and then take tin snips and cut out a square hole. Then pull out pump, put in new pump then make a cover out of thin sheet metal and apply caulk, silicone or butyl tape and screw it down over hole....roll carpet back down over it and voila....you are done! Believe me...this is the easy way....no way would I drop the tank. Everybody thinks I'm crazy for cutting a hole in my floor board but the real crazy people are the ones who drop the tank! :)
