Agreed. My first car was a 1958 Ford, which I bought in the fall of 1966, when I was a second year apprentice electrician.
I drove into work one morning, parked in the back yard, shut the car off, but it was soon very obvious there was a problem under the hood.
Fortunately the boss and a couple of the electricians were right there and they knew about this malfunctioning cut out relay issue. First they disconnected a battery cable, then removed the relay cover, then checked the contact points, and to the best of my recollection adjustments are made by bending the metal tabs or spring hooks of the cut out relay.
I am thinking this can be a very serious issue, as there may or may not be a fuse in the circuit to protect the generator and the wiring.
