Fellow I have never met before stops by my house yesterday:

"Hi! what do you think a 1942 Power Wagon ambulance is worth?"

Hmmm well is it a 3/4 ton, 1/2 ton or one ton? does it say power wagon on the hood? Does it run?

"it looks kind of like (pointing to one of my PW's) that but no badges. Its just sitting behind a guys house. It ran when they parked it."

Sounds like a 1/2 ton.

"Nope, its got huge spring stacks. it has to be a one ton! And its got a flathead 6 cylinder hemi engine with 36K miles on it"

They didn't make a 6 cylinder hemi. Well they did in Australia I think but I doubt that one of those found its way into a ambulance in the US.

"The guy says its a Hemi. The back medical part is kind of rusty but its 15 feet long!"

15'? should be no more than 8' long.

"well maybe its 12' then."

OK It sounds like nothing I have ever heard of before. Wait. Does it have duallies in back? could be a Chevy radio truck?

"nope its a dodge 1942. What do you think its worth?"

Well, although I love the ambulances. especially the 3/4 ton and one ton versions, they don't seem to be that desirable. rare yes. desirable no. In my opinion that is. Some military vehicle guys may go nuts over it. I cant say what its worth really.

"the guy wants a $1000 for it. Its in Tacoma but Im not going to tell you where. (smile)"

That's fine. I'm good on projects. I would say this: if you like it buy it.

"Can I sell it and make money on it?"

Maybe. but don't count on it.

"I just saw one go on ebay for $60,000!"

Maybe. But don't count on it. Buy it because YOU want it. It may be in your yard for a while.

"You want the guys phone number?"
