That may work assuming there is actually metal in the correct place that can be "dimpled". It has been a long time since I have owned an early WDX door, but I do remember that the big cutouts, where you reach through to install the regulators and hardware, are in a different place and with a different shape than the later doors that were made to accept vent windows. One may find that they have to weld some sheetmetal in place in order to dimple and slot for the hardware.
Unfortunately, if I ever took photos of the two door styles side-by -side, I cannot find them now.
