there are a couple of ways these can work.

if you do a coil or air bag type suspension you need them and other links to keep the axle in place and to transfer the power to the vehicle.

if you have leaf springs you don't typically need them... unless
you are jacked way up in the air and you have big horse power and large tires.
or
like me, I have a set on my jeep to keep the axle wrap from putting the pinion through the bottom of the jeep. I have really long super soft leaf springs and a really short drive line so mine are designed to keep all the spring travel but limit just the wrap.
they work well and are inline with the springs so i don't have to worry about hitting them.
