Sorry I didn't respond, don't usually go through the forums on the weekends. Too busy working on the truck!

It's been a while since that point but looking back at it I think I would have put a fish plate behind the patch with a few plug welds to help better tie it into the existing A-pillar as the back side is tough to weld in properly. Same way, a little lip at the bottom would have made for more surface area to weld it to the cab floor too.

You can kind of see in the original pillar that the mounting block doesn't float there either. The hinge holes are larger than needed to support some adjustment. I bolted the hinge in place through the replacement and then used that to make up and weld in the supports for the block.

That little angle is tricky but luckily the doors are adjusted with brute force so it's not amazingly critical to get it exact. Only other piece of advice is probably to cut back a little further than you think you need to. I always try to save more and then end up trying to weld back to weak metal which makes it harder and messier.

That fix was a tough one mentally. I hated to cut it out since I had no idea how I was going to tackle it, but I just tried to break it down into little pieces and it all worked out OK. It was definitely the right thing to do, but that didn't make it easier to want to do it.

Good luck and glad my pictures helped, just do the same and let us know how it all comes out!
