I was looking around the piles of bent and rusty metal which represent my plow truck, and with fall quickly approaching I was feeling a bit discouraged. On my short list of items is fixing up the cab, and first on that is my super-ugly door pillar. I was poking around the archives for inspiration and/or shared misery and I came across your posts from 2011. I followed the pic to your Picassa album and found a nice series of pictures on your solution. It looks great and pretty straight forward. I'm going to follow your lead here. Thanks for posting those pictures.

I know it's been a while, but do you recall any "lessons learned" about this approach that you might share? Would you do it this way again? Also, one thing I noticed is that the backing plate for the hinge doesn't appear to float in the channel section you created - do you think this is necessary and/or would make adjusting the door easier?

I'm feeling like my cab isn't quite as terrible as it looks, or at least that there are others out there which are just as bad.

Thanks for posting those pictures and providing a little injection of hope!
