The gear is machined rounded edges as you see. It's a little worn, but fine to use.
Buy a wood dowel or PVC pipe a little smaller than the counter shaft opening. Cut it to fit inside length hole to hole. Place it inside the gear, spacer, and feed the rollers using grease to lubricate. Push on the opposite end your driving to prevent the wood/pvc from flying out.
