I have tried them all over the years. I have used muriatic acid, have used pebbles and kerosene, have used chain and vinegar, have even used the electro de-rusting process. If the tank was left uncoated, it rusted again within a year because the original factory coating inside the tank was gone. Have tried several different brands of do-it-yourself coatings and all have flaked off due to the alcohol in our modern fuels. Using a non-alcohol fuel is not really an option for me since the only place that sells it anywhere near me is 50 miles away. Have thought about trying to find a zinc plater, as someone suggested on here years ago, but have not found one within 200 miles yet.
