What is more critical is the fan shroud. I had lots of cooling issue on my carryall with its V8 in hot weather and slow driving. Everyone said slap a electric fan on it. What I ended up doing was to modify the fan shroud to match the new fan position and size and put a 1" lip on the shroud edge around the fan. I have about 1" clearance around the fan blade. That helped but I still had problems. I did more research on fans and the best position to radiators. I found out that the blades need to be about 1/3 into the shroud for max efficiency. I put a spacer on the fan blade to position it correctly. Now no over heating ever at 95 degrees driving in a parade.
