I just spotted a fire on Pilot Peek here in NE Nevada and called it in. The terrain is rugged and steep with heavy timber. Air access only. Looks to be several trees touching off.
About a week ago we got a pounding with lightning and brief rain. I knew we would have some sleepers as we call them and things start popping up. I told the Dispatch not much they can do tonight but suggested BLM do a fly-over in the morning. Notice I said suggest. They paged the local Volunteers and BLM. BLM said they are short on resources and will do a fly over in the morning as they know the area well. Only 1 volunteer responded with a Type 5 a real gung ho guy that will probably get himself in trouble by trying to hike into it at night.
No structure threat and the area it's in could use a cleanup. So we will see in the morning what happens.
Last time something similar happened on Murdock Mountain. BLM never did a fly-over and around 11 am as the son beat down on the west facing slope the wind kicked up and all hell broke loose.
