2wd to 4wd?

Does anybody have an opinion on converting a D-x00 to a W-x00? I'm looking at a D-300 crew cab and wondering how it would work if I swapped in the front end and transfer case from my W-200 parts truck. I realize I would have to add the crossmember that the transfer case hangs from. What I'm more worried about is whether the 3/4-ton front axle is the same as the 1-ton front axle. It looks the same, but does anyone know better? Also, the PW is a '66 and the D-300 is a '69, but I don't see any conflicts there.
