I drive two cars that have Day Time Runing lights(both 850 Volvos) and I found it a real pain.

The idea is a great one, it makes me more visable to other traffic, and as I have had a couple of accidents in which people have pulled out in front of me, (while I was driving other cars) I want to be seen!

My switch has three poisitions, DTRL, Running lights only, and all lights. This means that no matter what I do I can not have the car running and have the lights off.

As the DTRL are 2/3 power of the main lights, and I thought I might make the mistake of just running them, I always leave the main lights on.

This is where the feature to automaticly turn your lights off is GREAT!

I wanted to have the car running and have no lights on so I had my mechaninc find and disable the DTRL feature. Now I have the more conventional switch pattern: no lights, parking lights, all lights.

I feel that the fact that I have ben driving one of these cars for 8 years without having anyone pull out in front of me in a way I could not avoid says a lot about how much more visable I am.

And Brian, don't forget, you are only bitching about the DTRLs because you see them! That proves they work!

As another person put it, many other stupid things are done by people besides DTRL, and those things can't be stopped.

What I find MUCH more dangerous is people who run around at dusk or after dark with no lights.

Trust me, if you are in well lit enouugh area to drive without your headlights at night, it does not mean I can see YOU in the shadows.

Enough ranting!

Eric
