That's why it works to free stuck pistons. It dissolves the aluminum oxide that forms between the piston and the wall. As well as it works to free a stuck aluminum piston.

I've found it does not work as well for ferrous rust. Kroil works better. Keep in mind that Kroil is oil mixed with acid, so you must clean it thoroughly when done. I've seen kids use it on bicycle chains, which free up quickly but a couple of week later are really nasty. Anything that had Kroil on it needs to be washed or at least flooded with something like thin oil or tranny fluid.

Piston rings are another problem. Sometimes turning the block upside down and pouring Coka into the piston skirt to wall gap to dissolve the aluminum oxide, the turning the block right side up and pouring in Kroil to free the rings works as well.

I don't know if there is a difference between the various Cokes. I've always used Classic Coke.

And, I've often wondered why, since Coke is based on citric juices, straight lemon juice would not work? Of course, Coke is a lot cheaper than straight lemon juice.
