Warn winch

Guy on the local classifieds has a "12000 lb" Warn winch for $300. Says it's an older model that's better than the new models. Is this a reasonable price and are the old ones really better? I sort of feel the same way about electric winches that I do about electric fuel pumps, but any winch is better than no winch and electric is certainly convenient, at least.
