I know I'd like to have 2WD LO on other vehicles sometimes, but given that the engineers deliberately went to extra trouble to lock it out, I think that disabling the lockout requires extra care, just like bypassing a governor or a safety valve would, or turning up an injector pump for more power. You might get away with it most of the time, but...

On the other hand, I often use 4WD simply to reduce tire spinning and scuffing on steep rocky roads even when I don't really need it for absolute traction. With 2WD in an unloaded truck it's easy to spin the rear wheels when you go over rocks while applying power. Our rocks around here are really sharp and it doesn't take much spin to slice a big chunk of rubber out. 4WD pretty much eliminates that.
