I had a spool drum stuck to the shaft once. It just needed some coaxing. With the handle disengaged just tie the winch cable to something , put the pto in gear like you are pulling towards the W series Dodge. I would think that would free the spool from the shaft. Of course, go easy. That's what freedup mine. Unless someone welded the spool to the shaft.
