You have to put $5000 down, a "portion of which" will be used [by the seller] to "secure insurance". In other words, if you want to take it for a drive, you give him $5000, and he tells you he went and bought insurance just for that test drive with some portion (maybe $4000) of the insurance. Which of course is money you don't get back after you've had your expensive test drive. This is obviously a scam, because test drives are covered by the driver's and/or the sellers insurance. I've never heard of having to get special insurance just for a test drive.

Did you also see where he says mileage will be disclosed prior to sale. Of course it will be, as soon as the prospective buyer (after his "condition report", whatever that is, and his deposit, and he's finally allowed to sit in the seat and look at the odometer). Why not just look at the odometer and put the mileage on it in the ebay ad? It's not like anyone will believe it has any connection to reality on a pieced-together truck of this age anyway.

I can't imagine anyone could believe anyone could fall for the "deposit to drive it" line, so I think this is probably somebody's idea of a joke. If not it's clearly a scam. Would love to see what he has in mind for that "condition report" too.
