Dodge carryall tailgate latch questions

I was going to use locking jeep hood latches to hold the lift gate in place. Issue is I am not impressed with how they work. I know I can use them and 2 weeks from now I will not notice them there but I like the stock look better.
So what are others using.
What is the issue with the stock latches.
Anyone got a picture of what the lift gate mechanicals look like. especially around the latch.
