I'll have to go home and look at my parts. I was planning to install the steel repair sleeve on the crankshaft and then assemble the seal and seal housing the same as you would normally. Do they not give you a plastic alignment sleeve for the rear like you use on the front?

I would expect you should be able to use the same stamped steel ring to install the oversized seal as you would use for a standard seal. The stamped steel ring bears on the outside of the seal. It shouldn't matter that the seal lip has a slightly larger diameter.

When you install them together, do you leave the seal housing bolted tight to the block? (or do they tell you to at least loosen the housing bolts?) If you leave them tight, then your method is starting to make sense to me. If the tool really does install them both at the same time without removing the seal housing, then it might be worth $200. I was wondering if I would be able to remove the seal housing without messing up the pan gasket. I might be in for a lot of work resealing the entire oil pan.
