I don't like numerical readouts, especially in the absence of analog pointers, but I would love to fully instrument a truck with temperature and pressure readouts for every conceivable thing, and some sort of digital system for scanning through them or combining them on one display and setting alarms for excessive readings. I'm thinking something like an industrial HMI panel. It would be interesting, for example, to see temperatures of each gearbox, the oil sump, and the exhaust manifold, plus coolant in and out of radiator as well as in the block. Intake air pressure before and after the carburetor or turbo. Battery voltage, generator output current, and generator field voltage. Exhaust O2 and CO concentration and actual ignition timing relative to flywheel TDC, with manual timing adjustment while driving. It's a nerd's game, but it would be fun to instrument one truck with all that stuff.
