Simplest powered wood splitter in the world. They sold them back in the '70s when everybody was switching to wood heat on account of the energy crisis, inflation, and bad economy.

The idea is you bolt this giant screw onto one of the rear hubs (I think you could leave the wheel on if there was enough stud sticking through). It was about a foot long and tapered from maybe a 3" base to a sharp point. You would park your open-differential car or truck in your wood-cutting spot, jack the rear wheel with the screw on it off the ground a little, chock the other wheels, start up the engine and put a brick or rock in just the right spot on the gas pedal to give you a high idle speed (this was part of the printed instructions).

To split the wood you supposedly just have to jam the end of it onto the screw, which would commence to dig in and pop the wood apart. It looked great in the pictures, but I never saw one in action. There were so many was to get badly hurt with this contraption that I'm sure the government wouldn't even allow it to be sold today.
