FFPW Rear Shocks

I am trying to put rear shocks on a '51 FFPW that didn't have shocks before this restoation. The shock brackets came from a '49 doner axle. The '51 spring mounting U-bolts are too short to get the nuts on when passing through the shock mounts.

Is it possible that the U-bolts for rear shocks are longer?

Another fact, the tear spring packs are 12 leaves. I might be over kill on the springs as I will not be hauling heavy loads. If I remove 1 or 2 leaves I will have the needed threads on the U-bolts.

Any experianced comments accepted.
