not PW but dodge

I got my son a 2000 dodge 1500 pickup. The dash pad is all cracked and needs replaced. Now..... you need to lower the entire dash to get to the bolts near and under the front of the dash pad. I found all the bolts to lower the entire dash a good bit but not enough to get my fat hands up behind where the dash would be touching the windshield. I lowered the steering column And that lets it go lower... How do you/I completely remove the steering column? Thanks for any help. Sorry its no a FFPW? Bill
