Some of the newer 4 bangers have real tight clearance, and a skirtless piston. Much wear to piston and cylinder, and the piston can roll over in the cylinder. Can you say Grenade? New rings will not put that pin back in.

That said, I did re-ring a Honda back in '80. Checking the old rings for end gap, they fell right through the bores. No ring pressure, and no cylinder wear either. I have suspected ever since that Honda rings were a superior design, that rings in the Western World have waaaaay too much tension, and it's that tension that wears the cylinder walls. Maybe Murican engineers they have re-designed rings since? Todako Honda got his start in business as a ring maker. Maybe he knows something?
