Do the points open and close? Open only the thickness of a match book cover. And make sure the primary lead is both good and not grounded at the bulkhead fitting on the side of the dist.
The do need to be re-bushed when the shaft is so sloppy in it's bearing that it mis fires. But lots of newbies blame what they don't understand- carbs, dists, coils, master cylinders. What is your's doing?
