One of mine was a G - body like yours, only an '85 El Camino. The other an '82 Camaro. Both times where steel line rises up over the rear. High enough not to leak but sucking enough air to starve the engine. Diagnosis second time was a lot quicker. In both cases car ran fine once started, but would have to prime carb to start.
