It's kind of funny to me. Fire is an important part of life here but air quality and politics has pushed in here more and more. I always know spring is coming when i smell the sweet grass smoke in the air. I like it, but then again, I don't suffer from allergies or an extra sensitivity to the smoke. I guess all of our smoke goes straight to the East coast. They sure like our beef, but don't like the smoke that might come along with it. I am not saying that it is something to ignore, but burning is going to happen whether it's started by us or nature. I remember lots of times growing up when the smoke was much worse and a whole lot more ground was burned at once. Some of the old timers talked about starting fire down around Council Grove and letting it burn clear up into Nebraska....different times.

I had to laugh a few weeks ago when a local official made a comment in regards to the range land management burning, I think it was along the lines of "There is going to be burning and smoke, if you don't like it or are sensitive to it, maybe stay inside, or go on vacation or something"
