on the np540 OD look at the input shaft then look at the gear behind it , This gear is 5th or 3th if the gear is smaller then the input its 5th (OD) or if the gear is Larger then Input it's 3rd gear (Direct)
so that why OD trans like this you shift UP
to go in to 5th Over
