I have an 02 with the 24 valve cummins. I got it 2 years ago with 225,xxx. Currently has 275,xxx. Decided to check my turbo for shaft play sine miles are getting up there. No play I could find, but vanes are nearly gone on intake compressor side. Embarassed to say I've never looked at it before. My question is can I get away with replacing compressor wheel only? Or beter to replace entire turbo? Mileage has always been dissapointing ( 11-16) compared to my first gen at a strong 20-22. Could this contribute to poor mileage due to lack of air flow?
