Dave, I'm assuming that the spring is like a clock spring. If it broke at one of the ends you could heat the end and maybe rebend a tab. If it broke in the center I don't know if it could be fixed.

Try ebay, you never know what you will find. If there's nothing there go to owwm.org. If you sign up to the site you can look at their classified section (known as BOYD - bring out your dead) look at the ads and post a wanted. Also go to vintagemachinery.org and look up your drill press, and then check out the literature they have archived for it. You will probably find some service manuals and parts diagrams. There were a ton of those King-Seeley/Craftsman tools sold, so I think there's a good chance you will find a new spring. Good Luck!!
